no, toliets don't drain in the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere

people told me i should check it out when i visited australia.

i did, but their toliets don't spin when flushed. the just fill with water, then drain more or less straight down. i think it might be due to the type of toliets. they have two flush buttons. one is for a half flush and the other for a full flush. saves water, ya know.

so i really wondered about it considering lots of people say it happens. i did some research and found out that the answer is technically yes, but the effect would be too miniscule to notice. the shape of the bowl, direction water pours into it, and direction it was already spinning when you flushed (even if very small) all have a greater impact.

yah when i went i was watching out for that too. i was bored one day and filled the sink with water and then watched it drain. at the very end you can see that it spins in the opposite direction. but funny how their toilets really don't spin at all huh?!
