nellie to harry potter

so way back at the end of june i went to Sam Diego for work and spent a weekend hangin' out with the PK. it was a weekend of extreme sports. saturday was kayacking in la jolla cove, which was awesome. it was my first time kayacking and now i hella wanna do it again. it wasn't as hard as i would've expected on my arms. but the big thing from that weekend was the following day. we went out to anza borrego state park to check out the mud caves. it's in a desert less than 2 hours away from SD. i guess they're formed by flash floods that occur in the winter.

it was cool cuz i actually got to use my head lamp for something where it was meant to be used for:

on our way out of the last cave for the day, i was looking down about where to place my feet used my trusty head lamp to light the way. silly me, i forgot to pay attention to the ceiling and ended up slamming head into a stalactite. it was dosier of a bonk, but i didn't think too much of it. just stunned myself and stood there stunned for a sec. "ok, i'm good, lets go." pk suggested i take my hat off to make sure i wasn't bleeding. i hadn't thought of that. sure enough, i was. dammit i thought.

i clamped my hand on my head and we decided to get going back to the car. things were fairly urgent and we hurried. i was a tiny bit scared and panicky, but i wasn't gushing all over the place, so i figured that was a good sign. we got back to the car and suzanna helped me clean the wound, which had stopped bleeding by then (whew!). pk's afraid of blood, so he tried not to watch. couldn't have the driver fainting now, eh?

we made the decision to head back to SD to go to a hospital. didn't wanna drive around the desert looking for one since the bleeding had stopped.

i ended up having to get 4 stitches. bleck. the sucky part was that the doc told me to have them taken out 7-10 days later, which would've been right in the middle of my week at RYLA. and i can't leave RYLA. long story short: counselor michelle is a nurse, so she took 'em out.

the first part of the week at camp i had a bandaid on my forehead and people (Aric) kept calling me "white/confused nellie." but after i got the stitches removed and stopped wearing bandaids, i told people i was harry potter (cuz of the scar)...

so yea, here are some bloddy pictures... (don't look if you're squeamish)
