our realtor is funny

Bella and I have been looking for a house. We saw some homes last weekend on the near southside of Chicago. One, we really liked. We're going to see some more next weekend, but more on the northside. I asked our Realtor to set up showings for the houses we liked. We had an email conversation about it:

Realtor: I'm surprised Uptown is on your list, but if that's what you want to see, that's what we'll go see. Are you guys somewhat familiar with the area? Would you have an opportunity to drive around there before our showings?

Me: We're not that familiar with Uptown. Is there something we should be aware of?

Realtor: Hey Scott - That's a really tough question for realtors to answer. If you're looking to buy a property though, I'd certainly encourage you to drive through Uptown and get familiar with the area before we even look inside the units.

Me: Haha. Alright. How about this: We hear it's known as an area where drug dealers frequent. Was this what you were referring to?

Realtor: Sorry Scott - still can't comment on that - especially in an email - but Saturday around 1:00 should be no problem. I'll make calls and get you an itinerary asap. I'm glad you'll be able to check out the area a bit.

Interesting, eh? The wikipedia article on the area seems innocent enough. Chicagocrime.org seems to differ though. Will be interesting when we go check it out...

That's awesome. It's got to build trust with your realtor when he/she won't give you pretty important information. It's not too fun living in a place where drug deals go down right in front of your house. That's how we've been rollin' in the Riverside.

Off to the north! And yes...it is incredibly beautiful up there.
